Amanda Bennett is a well-known American journalist and author and the current CEO of the United States Agency for Global Media. Bennett was the director of Voice of America (2016-2020). Bennet is the author of six nonfiction books and in 2003, she was elected to the Pulitzer Prize board.
Bennet started her career at Harvard Crimson as an editor. In 1987 she won her first award with her colleagues a Pulitzer Prize for her work about public health officials and the AIDS epidemic scandal. Later in 1988, she left the Journal to become a managing editor at The Oregonian.
She also worked with The Lexington Herald-Leader, a Knight Ridder paper as the editor in 2001. Knight Ridder appointed her as the first female editor in the 174-year history of the flagship paper, The Philadelphia Inquirer which she later stepped down in 2006.
In 2006 Amanda was executive editor at Bloomberg News, where she created and ran a global team of investigative reporters and editors. In 2016 she was named the 29th director of Voice Of America where she announced her resignation in 2020 as the Trump administrators replaced VOA’s parent agency director with Michael Pack.
