In 1985, King joined the Associated Press where he began his career as a writer. He was then named chief political correspondent and headed political coverage of the 1992 and 1996 presidential elections. King then joined CNN in 1997 where served as the senior White House reporter from 1999 to 2005. King was then named CNN’s chief national correspondent in 2005, a position he still holds. From 2014 to 2021, he anchored the Sunday morning news program Inside Politics.
King also uses the Multi-Touch Collaboration Wall and has both been featured in a Daily Show segment, as well as CNN coverage of the US Presidential, Election in 2016 and 2020. It allows him to display and manipulate various graphics and maps relating to poll and election results.
In 2009 King began hosting his new talk show State of the Union till January 31, 2010, when he announced that CNN’s senior political reporter, Candy Crowley, would replace him. He began hosting a new weeknight show ‘John King, USA’ on 22nd March 2010. Unfortunately, the show was canceled in early 2012, airing the final episode on June 29, 2012.
