Ken has had quite an impressive career, he has been credited with being the first player to wear a batting glove in an actual game “as opposed to usage during batting practice”.

He played for four teams: the Kansas City Athletics (1963–1966, ), Washington Senators (1966–1967), Boston Red Sox (1967–1969), and Cleveland Indians (1969–1971). In his nine-season career, Harrelson was a .239 hitter with 131 home runs and 421 RBI (Run battle in) in 900 games. He retired in 1971 from his baseball career.

In 1975, Harrelson began his broadcasting career with the Boston Red Sox on WSBK-TV and became so famous. He then moved to a broadcasting role with the Chicago White Sox in 1981. Harrelson was then named the executive vice president of baseball operations for the White Sox on 2nd October 1985. In December 2019, Harrelson was named the 2020 recipient of the Ford C. Frick Award.
