Patrice Wood is an award-winning American journalist who currently serves as the main news presenter for WJAR, the NBC affiliate in Providence, Rhode Island. She was inducted into the Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame Women Inductees and Rhode Island Radio and Television Hall of Fame.
Wood also works as the education reporter and the Tuesday´s Child segment host. She is the longest-serving female newsreader in Providence television history, with 40 years on the air.
After graduating, Patrice kicked off her career reporting and presenting at WDHO-TV in Toledo, Ohio. She also did internships with ABC News, the United States House of Representatives, and Time magazine. In February 1980, Wood joined the WJAR News family as a reporter and weekend newsreader. Patrice was later promoted to the weeknight 11 p.m. newscasts in 1982. She became the anchor of the 5:30 pm edition, the new 5:00 p.m. hour newscast in 1995, and added to her duties the 6:00 report in 1997.
Wood served most of her tenure with longtime presenter Doug White, along with meteorologist Gary Ley and sportscaster Frank Carpano. She has also interviewed many personalities, such as Oprah Winfrey and Mark Wahlberg. She was previously the opening speaker at Roger Williams University in 2017.
