Rashida started her career in 2002 as a morning show producer at WTKR in Norfolk, Virginia while she was a senior in college. She later moved to The Weather Channel as a weekend producer and became director of live programming in 2009. Rashida then worked at WIS-TV in Columbia, South Carolina, as a news director before moving to New York City as an executive producer for daytime shows at MSNBC. Later on, Jones became the managing editor and senior vice president of specials for NBC News and MSNBC. In 2021, Rashida became the President of MSNBC becoming the first African-American woman to lead a cable news network.
