Terry Francona is a renowned American baseball manager of the Cleveland Guardians and a former Major League Baseball (MLB) player. Terry was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota, and grew up in New Brighton, Pennsylvania where he started his baseball career.
Francona was selected by the Montreal Expos as the 22nd overall pick in the 1980 MLB Draft and made his MLB debut in August 1981. During his playing career, Terry played as an outfielder and first baseman for 5 teams including the Montreal Expos, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Indians, and Milwaukee Brewers.
After retiring from playing, Francona transitioned into managerial roles and first became the manager Philadelphia Phillies before joining Boston Red Sox from 2004 to 2011 where he led the team to their first championship since 1918 in 2004 and another World Series championships in 2007.
In 2013, Francona became the manager of the Cleveland Indians (now known as the Cleveland Guardians) where he led them to an American League pennant in 2016. Moreover, Terry became the Guardian’s all-time leader in wins by a manager.
