Jiang developed an interest in journalism at the age of 13 and started her journalism career professionally after graduating from college and was a reporter for WBOC-TV in Salisbury, Maryland. Between 2008 and 2012, she worked at WJZ-TV, Baltimore, and then joined WCBS-TV, New York as a general assignment reporter and fill-in anchor until 2015.
Jiang then became a correspondent for Newspath, the 24-hour newsgathering service for CBS News based in Washington D.C., where she covered major political stories. In 2018, Jiang became a senior CBS News correspondent for the White House and traveled with President Donald Trump on many occasions including on-board Air Force One.
However, there are controversial moments between Jiang and Donald Trump. The former president told Jian to “Ask China” after questioning him about the COVID-19 testing program during his May 11 press briefing. Moreover, Weijia is a member of the Asian American Journalists Association.
